Oh RubySnap!

My blog has turned into a bit of a foodie blog. Well, mostly I post recipes that I made up and tried and ended up pretty darn satisfied with myself for creating. One thing I’m not great at, however, is making cookies. I imagine I mess up the cookies the same way I kill my house plants: an affliction my brother likes to call “too much love.” I probably mix the dough too much and since I don’t have a nifty stand-up mixer, the problem persists.
Lucky for me I have people like Tami Cromar in my life to fill the gaping chasm in my baking skills. Tami is a mad scientist in the kitchen, combining flavors you'd never think to pair resulting in—hands down—the best cookie you've ever eaten. Ever. (I'm serious.) She’s also pretty much a marketing genius and the proprietor of Salt Lake City cookie shop, RubySnap.
I followed RubySnap on Twitter one day like I follow a lot of local SLC-based businesses. I happened to be doing this music video for a London-based producer and he wanted to use RubySnap cookies as an incentive to donate to a start-up project of his. He showed Tami the video and she said, “Hey! Isn’t that dualori?!” Surely it was and she decided then and there that I, and, more importantly, my bangs, needed to be captured on film as one of her RubySnap monthly Pin-ups.
Now before you get ahead of yourself, these pin-ups aren’t what you’d think of traditionally as pin-ups. She uses only local-girls and we are all modestly dressed. Her aim is to convey the idea that a woman can be sexy without showing too much skin. So I became the May 2011 Pin-up to usher in the cookie Evia (Ah-vee-ah). Evia is a vanilla cookie with a marzipan center with pears and pine nuts. I think the delightfully wind-swept flavors of the Evia cookie pair beautifully with my aviator-themed photo.

Tami was even so gracious as to let me host a Tweetup at RubySnap headquarters as a means of unveiling my Pin-up photo that hangs there. My fellow tweeps and I got the chance to make some cookies of our very own creation and, of course, sample all of the cookies that RubySnap has for sale at her downtown store front. We all left with a few new friends and a new stick with which to measure all cookies we encounter in the future.
If you aren’t in Salt Lake City, you can still enjoy the best cookies in the Northern Hemisphere; she ships frozen cookies to any destination in the country. Or, if you’re a local, swing by her shop at 770 South 300 West to sample any cookie you like! (Open Monday thru Saturday from 10am to 6:30pm. Closed Sunday.)
